Not long after Limhi's people and Alma's people joined Mosiah's people, a new generation started coming of age. These upstarts were too young to remember King Benjamin's final address, and they had never entered a covenant with God. So they began rebelling, and some churchgoers started rebelling with them. The teachers and priests, not knowing what else to do, took some of these rebels to Alma, who in turn took them to King Mosiah, who sent them back to Alma. So Alma prayed, and the voice of God gave him very specific instructions for dealing with apostasy.
