While Alma was journeying to another land, he crossed paths with the sons of Mosiah, who had been preaching to the Lamanites for 14 years. They had a happy reunion, and now we get a flashback to find out what his friends had been up to.
When they left Zarahemla, the split up. Ammon was soon captured by some Lamanites, who took him to their king, Lamoni. Ammon offered to be a servant, so Lamoni made him a shepherd. While Ammon and the other shepherds were watching the sheep, some Lamanite bandits came and scattered their flock. Ammon organized the shepherds, and they were able to get the sheep back together. When the bandits tried to scatter them again, Ammon defended the flocks by fighting with the men, chopping off several of their arms. In the end, he completely defeated them despite being badly outnumbered because the Lord was with him.
